MP Vikram Sahney Launches Civil Services Coaching Scholarship Programme
On the solemn occasion of the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Punjab, announced a landmark Scholarship Programme for Punjabi youth aspiring to join the Civil Services and Defence Forces of India.
Dr. Sahney informed that under this initiative, economically weaker yet meritorious students from Punjab will receive full scholarships to prepare for UPSC, PCS, and Defence examinations at India’s premier coaching institutes including Vajirao & Reddy, Drishti IAS, and Chanakya IAS Academy.
Highlighting Punjab’s glorious legacy of service to the nation, Dr. Sahney recalled that the state has historically produced some of the country’s finest officers—ranging from Air Marshal Arjan Singh , Lt. Gen. Harbaksh Singh (1965 War Hero), Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri (1971 War Hero) and among many others. However, he emphasised with concern that the participation of Punjab’s youth in national services has declined in recent years. UPSC data indicates that Punjab accounts for barely 2% of total IAS/IPS selections annually, significantly lower than states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu. Similarly, Defence Ministry reports highlight a 25–30% drop in recruitment from Punjab during the past decade.
Dr. Sahney stressed that empowering the youth is the greatest tribute to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Through this scholarship programme, hundreds of dedicated young men and women from Punjab will be supported every year to pursue their dream of serving the nation with honour.
